I am Professor and Interim Director of the Global Urban Studies Program at Michigan State University (MSU). I also hold appointments in MSU's Department of Geography, Environment and Spatial Sciences and the School of Planning, Design and Construction. Before coming to MSU, I taught in departments of Public Policy, Urban Planning, Urban Design, and Geography at the University of Toronto, Syracuse University, Dalhousie University, and Texas A&M University. My main areas of research focus on urban (re)development processes and the resulting socio-economic, built, environmental and health impacts.
In addition to my experience in academia, I have worked in government and in private consulting firms as an urban policy analyst and planner. I also have extensive experience as editor, most notably being Associate Editor (2010-2015) and the Editor in Chief (2015-2021) of the Journal of Urban Affairs (JUA). Currently, I am the JUA’s Senior Associate Editor.
